Polly could share her home with dog savvy teenage children. She is looking to be the only dog in the home, and a home without cats, small furies, or livestock. She would love a quiet home environment with a predictable routine, either with a garden or regular access to a large secure field. Initially, Polly will need access to quieter walks and away from traffic. Polly would love her adopters to have an interest in positive reward training – which she loves, and it is great for mental stimulation. Potential adopters should be prepared to visit Polly at the centre a few times before adoption and to aid the transition from a rehoming centre into a home environment, Polly will need to visit her new home and have overnight stays prior to adoption. We therefore ask that any potential adopters live within an hour of the centre so we can facilitate this.
Polly is a pretty three-year-old Shepherd cross Staffy who is fun-loving, affectionate, and adores people. She is extremely clever and her favourite thing to do is show off her tricks for treats. She has a bag of them, including a ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘wait’, ‘paw’, ‘find it’ – for searching for treats, and ‘flop’, why not teach her some new tricks as she loves to learn. Another way of keeping that big brain busy is scent work, (find it games) and agility. Polly sometimes likes to play with toys, her favourite are soft toys, she enjoys chase games with you, and she sometimes likes a game of fetch. Polly has made quite a few friends with our volunteers here at the centre, she is a soppy, loving girl who makes everyone smile. Polly enjoys walks in quiet, rural areas. Born in lockdown she missed out on those early socialisation skills with other dogs, when she sees a dog, she is not sure how to interact, and her meet and greet can be a little O.T.T. However, she can make friends with suitable dogs and is doing really well. She has a few doggie pals who she goes for walks with and even has some off-lead playmates. She has been doing well off-site for trips in the car with her carers and has been seeing other dogs when out and about practicing her training. Polly loves a fuss and snuggles with her human friends, and she looks to them for reassurance. This wonderful girl’s intelligence, resilience and fun, bubbly personality makes her a pleasure to spend time with.
